People have been using physical sets since the beginning of filmmaking. However, there has been a shift to virtual sets as green screen and virtual environment technologies have improved. While it may seem impossible to become involved in a production that uses this technology, here are five reasons why it is better to use a virtual environment than a physical set.

  1. Need to film in a far location? Travel is expensive and potentially dangerous for fragile cameras and equipment. In a virtual environment, your actors can be anywhere from Paris to Mars, all for the same cost.

  2. Building a set takes lots of resources; many set pieces end up in landfills. Moving your set to a virtual space reduces the carbon footprint of your production.

  3. Filming outside has countless variables--wind ruining the audio quality, inconsistent weather, and expensive permits for spaces. Eliminate all outside factors that could ruin your production, and film on a virtual sound stage.

  4. No person can get a permit for the entire world. However, you can have the entire world at your fingertips in a virtual studio. The size of your set can be unlimited with the help of a virtual environment.

  5. Changing locations can be a hassle. Moving expensive equipment, actors, and set pieces is tedious and time-consuming. Eliminate your need to move areas by filming your whole production inside a virtual studio.
